I’m quite certain that

It’s BBQ week! Which makes it the perfect excuse to bring out and fire up your barbi if you haven’t in a while. Invite your friends and get your family together – the weather is ideal and what could be more alluring than great barbecued food, chilled beers and quality time with loved ones?
we all have such wonderful experiences around the BBQ & tons of interesting tales to tell. Barbecuing is so much fun – besides the being out in the open and enjoying the sunshine, it involves everyone in the process and not the mention the food is… erm… smokin’!! I cannot remember a time we’ve not had a blast, whenever we’ve done a BBQ. We’ve burned food, we’ve clumsily dropped the food and we’ve argued endlessly over technique. Nevertheless, we’ve made some amazingly succulent kebabs and grilled whole fish and whole lot of other things. Above all we’ve made some amazing memories of great times spent together.
Here’s a video, which my husband and I shot recently for “The Urban Cook Show” on Zee Khana Khazana Channel. We’re making some lovely Grilled Nigerian Lamb Kebabs called “Suya” and sharing a few stories of our lives.
And going back to the recipe of the day … Tandoori Chicken is one of the easiest things to throw on the grill. A simple marinade of lime juice + salt for 30 mins and then, ginger garlic paste + minced green chills + red food color + tandoori spice mix. Marinate overnight and simply slather some ghee on top and grill it. Now those taste fabulous once grilled through, with that smokey, earthy flavour and spices kicking in, but if you have some leftovers, there is another brilliant thing you can do with them… A refreshing, crunchy, zingy salad! To make this a little interesting and more over ‘cuz I love a little crunch in my salad, I’ve made crispy chapatti strips. Given there’s no oil in this extremely healthy salad, I could afford to indulge a wee bit. It’s quite simple actually, you could substitute with whole wheat tortillas if you don’t make chapattis/rotis at home. Fancy doing something a bit more experimental with your BBQ? We came across this post which we thought had some great recipes to try out !

it has been a year like

I suppose this is the day in the year when we’re all supposed to shake our heads and say, “Wow. Another year.”
Twelve months. 365 days. This is the day where the year is supposed to become the sum of all its parts.
But really, I don’t know how much I believe this. In the journey that is each year in our lives, there are so many moments, many of them that pass forgotten, that transpire .
It seems almost unfair to to try to sum it all up. It seems almost impossible.
For me, many others. A busy work like. A busy social life. A busy family life. Italy. Baking. So many things the same.
But 2013 is also the year I turned 40. The year I found myself thinking of my Papa’ more than ever. The year I blogged the least ever since starting this little project in 2005. The year I found myself questioning more often than answering nuskin.
As I navigate these waters, the one thing I know is that it’s really the simple things that often matter the most and that you often remember the most. Rocca – my little house in the hills in Italy – has taught me this.
So I have found pleasure in these simple things and resolve daily to keep them close. I suppose the best symbol of this is homemade pasta Neo skin lab.
Forgive me if I start waxing poetic, but it’s true. Eggs, flour and a little salt. Your hands. So simple and yet so much pleasure. I can’t help but remember my aunts in Italy and the profound joy of watching them make pasta in their kitchens.
I bid this year adieu and am grateful, as always, for my family. Their love is a constant source of comfort. I am thankful for my friends and for the joys they bring.

adults in mind because

Certain attractions turn up in every guidebook: The sea lions at pier 39, the cable cars, Golden Gate Bridge, and so on, and so forth. Someone who’s never even set foot on the left coast could probably list the very same roundup of must-see sights, and for good reason. They’re unarguably iconic pieces of San Francisco that add to its unique allure, but if you only browse the list of the city’s greatest hits, you’ll miss out on richer adventures that would exceed even the most accommodating itinerary Mathematics Summer Courses.
Even if you’ve lived here for years, it’s easy to turn up new hidden gems, tucked just around the corner from familiar streets and everyday haunts. Something as random a tiny park perched atop a sloping ridge, for example, complete with the most wicked concrete slides you’ve ever tumbled down.
The Seward Slides were clearly made with the velocity that sends any unwitting participant hurtling down that steep knoll might be too intense for those with a more delicate constitution. Locals recommend bringing sheets of cardboard for heightened speed, but provided you have a sturdy pair of pants to gird your loins, you definitely won’t need any assistance to enjoy a brief thrill park experience.
Situated next door to Kite Hill, it’s a beautiful, miraculously quiet oasis in the city, a scant handful of blocks away from Dolores Park. Be mindful of the neighbors as it’s at the heart of a residential area, and clear out by 5 PM when the park officially closes each day.
Don’t be afraid to venture off the beaten path. No matter how long you spend in the bay area, there’s always more to discover.

to envelope your taste buds

Either you like mint or you don’t. I think there is something extremely seductive about biting into a delicate ball of chocolate goodness expecting nothing but rich cacao cream , and as that happens, on comes the mint which travels to every corner of your mouth, making the presence of chocolate even stronger and as you swallow, it wakens up every pore on it way down. You’ll want to sit back, roll your eyes up and shut them, trying to savor every bit of it, and before you know it you’ll be reaching out for more ageLOC Me.
The idea is to make them small, so that its not to overpowering in one bite. Yet one mini bomb will not be enough and you will find it hard to resist, going on for another one Karson Choi. I used this very sexy ganache over a delicious Chocolate Cake in my previous post. This recipe below was enough to drizzle all over the bundt and made a couple of truffles with the remaining Ganache. You could however use all of it, or reduce the quantity by half for a smaller quantity. Remember we are rolling them small, so you will end up with quite a few . Please do keep them refridgerated as they will get all melty if left outside.

Like the soothing rhythm

Some things never change, of the ocean, day in and day out, as waves lap against the shores of Oahu. Every visit seems to pick up right where the last left off, as if the whole island had been put on pause in my absence. There’s a timeless quality about the majestic rain forests; the towering mountains and their plunging craters; the flora and fauna buzzing, chirping, and making merry throughout it all. There’s a certain comfort knowing that no matter how long it takes me to return, Hawaii will remain as enchanting a place as the day I first met it.
And yet, in my heart, I know that this is a consolatory lie. Imperceptibly, without conscious intention, everything changes. You can never truly go home again if you’re expecting “home” to align with questionably maintained memories. However, in the case of Honolulu’s evolving food scene, this is a very good thing indeed. One of the newest and most buzzed about establishments to take root in the past six months is Ai Love Nalo, an unassuming outpost on the far-flung coast of Waimanalo. Housed in a former gas station, it would be easy to drive right on by without a second thought, as nothing from the outside hints at the culinary treasures within.
Despite the fact that it’s a considerably trek for city-dwellers, factoring either traffic or bus schedules into the equation, or both if you’re particularly unlucky, it’s a journey always worth taking. Hit Hanauma Bay along the way and make it a day trip; the only way to top those dazzling sights is to follow them with a stellar meal.
Boasting a menu composed of locally-sourced produce and entirely vegan options, you’ll want to take a number of friends for the best experience. Heck, get out there and make some new friends! Join one of the long communal picnic tables out back and introduce yourself; there are no friendlier folks on earth than those living in paradise, as far as I’ve seen.
That said, if there was only one dish to order, it would have to be the Oh WOW Laulau. Wow, indeed! No where else on earth have I found vegan laulau, let alone such a stellar rendition. Traditionally consisting of fatty pork and/or fish steamed in taro leaves, this version eschews the meat in favor of hearty root vegetables, adding creamy coconut into the mix for richness. Not to be overlooked is the Tofu Poke provided on the side, claiming to be spicy but really bearing just enough warmth to taste perfectly balanced. This was easily my personal favorite from the small sampling of dishes provided, but it’s a close call when all the options are so good.

Snow peas used
Now that garden of my childhood is thousands of miles away, sounding like little more than a dream. Farmers markets have come to replace those homegrown goodies, shaking up the standard bill of fare with their comparatively endless, irresistible range of fresh temptations.
Graduating to the thicker, juicier, dare I say, meatier podded delights known as snap peas, I relish snacking on them raw or simply seared. Tossed in a blistering hot pan with a splash of oil and a pinch of salt, their inherent sweetness truly shines through after a scant minute on the fire.
Inspiration to turn this simple concept into a more coherent dish struck while idly browsing through my favorite discount grocery outlet. Fancy pastas, typically out of reach and far out of budget, beckoned from a top shelf, boasting shapes I’d never before seen in semolina format. Though formally dubbed Foglie d’Ulivo, translated as “olive leaves,” I immediately saw noodle incarnations of my beloved snap peas. The two simply had to meet; it would have been criminal to walk away from this particular impulse buy.
It doesn’t take a recipe to explain how simple but satisfying this quick dinner for one turned out. One glance at the photo is likely enough to discern the formula, but in case you need addition reassurance, here’s the full rundown: Seared snap peas tossed with pasta, chickpeas, orange zest, and a handful of cilantro. Garnish with nasturtium blossoms for an extra peppery bite, if you crave a bit more embellishment.
